Identity checks

Every money service has to know who its customers are. It keeps criminals out and keeps your account yours.

01Why we check

Anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing law requires us to verify who you are before you can use cards, account details and larger payments, and to watch for payments that don’t fit. The same checks make it much harder for someone to open an account in your name.

02How it works

  1. In the app, you photograph your ID document: passport, national ID card or driving licence.
  2. You take a short selfie, so we know the person holding the ID is you.
  3. Our verification partner, Didit, checks that the document is genuine and that the faces match. Most checks finish in minutes.

03When we ask for more

Sometimes the law requires us to ask where your money comes from or what a payment is for, especially for larger or unusual amounts. We may pause a payment until we have the answer. We ask only for what we need.

04What we keep

We keep the results of your checks and your transaction records for as long as the law requires, usually at least five years after your account closes. See the Privacy Policy.
